Compassionate Women’s Health Services You Can Trust
Women’s health appointments are an opportunity to run necessary tests and address concerns like abnormal menstrual bleeding, infertility, or menopause symptoms. However, many women put off these appointments for months or years because they can’t find a doctor they feel comfortable with.
At Women’s Health Care Center of Houston, with two locations in Houston, Texas, our team of women’s health and reproduction specialists want you to be able to feel positive and safe as you pursue women’s healthcare options. Here’s what we want you to know.
What’s included in a well-woman exam
During a well-woman exam, we begin by asking questions about your lifestyle and medical history. This can help fill out your medical history and make future diagnoses much easier. Feel free to ask any questions you may have as well.
Once the basic data on your health history is collected, prepare for a series of examinations, including:
- Vitals (height, weight, blood pressure)
- Cholesterol test
- Sexually transmitted disease (STD) screening
- Breast exam
- Pelvic exam
- Pap smear
For women over 40, the well-woman checklist is a bit more robust. You can expect a few more tests, such as:
- Mammogram
- Thyroid profile
- Bone mineral density test
- Colorectal cancer screening
- Fasting plasma glucose test
Depending on your family and medical history, you may need additional screening. Don’t hesitate to request tests based on other women in your family having complex medical histories, and ask questions about your future health. Your appointment is a chance for you to voice your concerns to a doctor who cares.
Fertility and obstetrics
At Women's Health Care Center of Houston, we also provide assistance for women who want to have children, whether that means helping them get healthy before a planned pregnancy or fighting back against infertility.
Our team can diagnose the cause of infertility or pregnancy issues, and help you find a way forward. We may recommend intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in-vitro fertilization (IVF) as appropriate. We’ll continue the journey with you once you get pregnant, providing prenatal and postpartum care.
Finding a provider
Choosing an OB/GYN is a bit more personal than selecting a dentist or primary care provider (PCP). Not only will your doctor be privy to many intimate details, but they’ll present for many milestones in your life, from pregnancy to menopause.
When you stick with the same provider, you build a more personal, comprehensive medical record. Unusual symptoms and test results will be apparent with more data to compare to, and you’ll feel more comfortable with a doctor you know.
At Women’s Health Care Center of Houston, we help women navigate every era of their life, no matter what challenges you face.
